Consonance Reference5.5 MKII

The Consonance Reference5.5 MKII is a limited edition amplifier made by Opera Audio, developed around the legendary 300B power tube with custom output transformers utilizing 8 and 16 ohm taps for modern as well as vintage loudspeakers.

The Reference5.5 MKII is a single-ended tube integrated amplifier, utilizing a pair of 300B power tubes in parallel for each channel, for 18 watts of pure Class A output power.  

This integrated amplifier has four pairs of RCA single-ended inputs to accomodate any line-level audio source, and a preamp output for use in setups with a powered subwoofer. 

The intuitive central meter on the front panel is used to dial in the cathode bias of the 300B power output tubes individually for optimum operation. The amplifier is built with high quality components and materials, such as RA resistors, Auricap XO capacitors, proprietary power and output transformers and point-to-point wiring to ensure the highest quality signal path. The units that we have in stock come with matched PSVane 300B output tubes, and new-old-stock USA-made 6201/12AT7 and 5687 input/driver tubes from the golden years of USA vacuum tube production. 

Listening notes:  The first overriding impression of inserting this amp in to the system: PERSONALITY! It’s uncanny. It’s difficult to describe, but the individual character and personality of individual musicians and emotion of the performance comes through with unique directness using this amp. Its 18 watt output sounds small on paper, but is wildly expressive and dynamic in the room.
